Smoking

A note on the nature of addiction.

I quit smoking cigarettes on July 4, 2001. I mean quit. Not a single cigarette; not a single puff.

I was just walking down the hall of my home and had an overwhelming craving for a cigarette. I waited, intrigued and curious, and it passed. But it never goes away. It gets less frequent. But the impulse is as strong as it ever was.

No wonder folks don't stay quit.

Different craving.

Hang in there! The cravings are only temporary, but the benefits of being an ex-smoker last a lifetime. I smoked my last cigarette in 1983. Let me tell you, it's totally worth it.

I read someone describe how after giving up sugar if you accidentally get a coffee with sugar you instinctively spit it out cos it's rank.

A first cigarette after x years off however still hits the sweet spot. Demon weed, almost 2 years off here.
