Luke 20:25
And he said unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which be Caesar's, and unto God the things which be God's.
I had to abandon you today because my government sees fit to create such complexity in the tax code that you not only can't figure out what you owe them, but you can't figure out who doesn't have to pay their fair share. As much as I rage at our elected representatives for creating this maze, I bless the kindly makers of TurboTax for my computer. At least I don't have to place myself before a suit wearing a bow tie and hear ponderous things about how I don't handle my money the way he thinks I should.
I don't actually mind paying taxes. I use roads and libraries. I want my meat and medicine inspected. I even want my government, state and federal, to keep businesses from dumping fecal matter and medical waste in the Chesapeake Bay. But I sure hate paying to bomb civilians.
The talking heads keep talking about leaving Iraq when it is free, when the people feel the right to have a democratic form of government. Nevermind that we have a republic, which I prefer. But if we are going to be such great supporters of a democratic form of government why don't we vote with our tax money? Let each of us decide where our tax dollars will go. I might spend some on education, feeding folks, library books, and firefighters. Others might buy missiles. It would sure make the commercials leading up to April 15 more interesting.
